This last month has been one of lots of new things happening.  From a new sponsorship opportunity to a fresh new face on our User Forum, it's been a very interesting time.  Of course, we only launched RS-SQL 4.01 last month, so I'm still learning lots about that too.

 

In this edition of the newsletter, you can learn more about the new things going on, as well as read the latest case study from , Greg LeFrancis, President/General Manager of Southwest Data Protection, Inc.  It is great to be able to share these stories with you, and we will continue to share more over the coming months.

 

On the technical side, we already have a small upgrade for RS-SQL 4.01 and some news on the new MC959x-K scanners and a pesky problem that we have fixed!! 

 

With a look back at the latest news posted on our twitter feed and our next training dates, that just about rounds it up.

Updated User Forum Launched!! - www.oneilsoft.com/user-forum


Many of you will have noticed that we continued with our website upgrade this month and transferred the user-forum to a new layout.  The reason for the move was to complete the full integration of the forum and to add new functionality.

 

The most important aspect was the data migration, to ensure we maintained the [over] 1970 posts, so that all the historical questions and answers could be searched.  We also wanted to ensure that data integrity, such as users posts was maintained.  We are pleased that this is now complete, with only a couple of minor issues that were quickly fixed.

 

In this new release, not only can you now post questions and share answers with the over 900 members but you can interact even more with the opportunity to rate topics.  Personal preferences allow email notifications of topics you are watching, the ability to sort topics (such as newest post first), and easier viewing of posts.  We also wanted to add a better search engine, as there is so much great information now available.  One of the neatest features is the "Quick Post" capabilities, so that it is easy for everyone to get involved in a discussion.

 

In the coming months, we will be adding more functionality, such as capabilities so that forum members can interact with each other more freely, so watch this space!!

Strategic Partner Conference 2011 - Dates Announced


O’Neil will host their 2011 Strategic Partner Conference at the beautiful Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort in Huntington Beach, California on Wednesday, September 14th to Friday, September 16th. The location (“Surf City, USA”) has become a favorite of attendees and is where O’Neil held their 2007 & 2010 Strategic Partner Conference. Due to popular demand, it was selected again, offering an atmosphere that lends itself perfectly to a unique, interactive and memorable experience.

Southwest Data Protection


Companies with field service staff are now turning to mobile solutions for added productivity and efficiencies. More and more, not having a mobile solution is what sets you apart from the competition – and not in a good way.

Here’s a case study on an off-site data storage company, who was definitely looking to set themselves apart from the competition in a unique way. They were looking to provide customers with an accurate record of their service at the point of interaction; scanning software for wireless handhelds that enable electronic signature; wireless printers that eliminate the need for drivers to return to their vehicles to print receipts, invoices and barcode labels; and an online portal for their customers to track their computer tapes and media.

RS-SQL Version 4.01 and update .227 Now Available for Download


The latest version of RS-SQL 4.01 is now available for download from our website at:

The download will be in the form of an ISO image, and instructions on how to save this to a CD are available on the Download page.  You will also be able to download the latest documentation CD.  Do remember that you will need a Username and Password in order to download the CD, so register today at http://www.oneilsoft.com/login/register if you have not already done so.

Storage Card Update for the MC9590K and MC9596K


Please be advised that O’Neil will now be shipping all MC95XX Mobile devices with the following storage card as standard: SanDisk 4GB Micro SD HC (Class 4)

The reason behind the change is because several customers started to report excessive RSADO errors during the operation of the new MC95XX mobile scanner. RSADO errors, commonly related to the access of the RS-Mobile SQL CE database on the device. During extensive testing the support and development team in the US managed to replicate the behavior using a series of stress tests. Removal of the storage card and initialization of the device to place the RS-Mobile SQL CE database on the internal memory appeared to resolve the issue. Many customers have utilized this solution and have not reported any further errors at this time. Further research of storage solutions lead us to review higher class cards.

 

The original Micro SD card has since been placed on an “End of Life” notice by SanDisk leaving the introductory model as the SanDisk 4GB Micro SD HC (Class 4). To date the class 4 memory card has tested error free. Customers that previously used the class 2 cards with errors have now moved to the class 4 model; the results in the field reflects the results in the test lab.

Customers that currently have class 2 cards for the MC95xx model are eligible for free replacement.
