*Internet Explorer and Netscape indicate the security status by displaying a lock or a key at the bottom corner of the browser or on the address bar (ie7).  If you are at a non-secure page, then the lock is open, the key is broken, or either is missing entirely.  When you are at a secure page, the lock is closed or the key is unbroken.  You don't need to be at a secure site when browsing (such as reading this page or browsing the information pages) however it is important to be at a secure site when you actually send credit card information.
