This month I am very excited as many months of discussions have come to fruition with the introduction of our Motorola/O'Neil Customer Loyalty Program.  A quick check showed that in it's first week we were able to give back the equivalent of more than $5000 in award points!  You can read all about it, and how to get your share of the rewards, in the What's New section below.

Also, PRISM International is carrying out its first charity event, a motorcycle ride from Daytona Beach, Florida to Santa Monica Pier, California.  The goal is to raise $25,000 for a prominent, international children's hunger charity.  You can read more below and please consider making a donation, however small, as 100% of donations go directly to the charity.

As always, I hope you enjoy this edition.

What's New at O'Neil

Motorola/O'Neil Customer Loyalty Promotion

I am delighted to announce the Motorola and O’Neil Software Customer Loyalty Program, which has been in the negotiation stage for quite some time. The program is our way of continuing to move beyond a simple customer/supplier relationship by negotiating directly with Motorola on your behalf.

In the current economic climate it is increasingly important that you are able to utilize cutting-edge software, such as our RSMobile solution, to maximize your cost savings, but this comes at a price as you need RSMobile capable devices. Using our status as Motorola's leading Business Solution Partner in the commercial record management market, we have been able to create a significant loyalty scheme with Motorola for the Americas & Asia regions. We are continuing negotiations in Europe and should have an update in the next couple of weeks.

So how does this work?

User Forum Exceeds 500 posts

For all you NASCAR racing fans, you recently enjoyed the Daytona 500 but for me it was the month where we saw the User Forum break past 500 posts. This may not seem too earth-shattering, but the forum is still a fairly new method of opening up communications with all our customers.

O'Neil Software now on Facebook

Due to several requests, O'Neil Software can now be found on the popular social networking site - Facebook.

As if the website, user forum, blog and twitter accounts are not enough, it appears that many of our customers already use Facebook extensively and wanted one place to get all the latest news from O'Neil.

As we continue to ensure that we open up every possible communication channel, so we can best interact with all our customers, it seemed only natural to add Facebook to our list. If you are already a Facebook user, you can link to us at http://www.facebook.com/pages/oneilsoft/53886276937

PRISMgives.com Charity Ride - Route & Call for Donations

You may have read that I am taking part in the first PRISM International Charity event, which will be a motorcycle ride from Daytona Beach, FL to Santa Monica, CA. This evening I finished planning the route, which avoids most major cities along the way.

The destinations and route had to been fine-tuned (so we can stay at hotels with beds long enough for Dennis Barnedt, PRISM's current President, to lie down). Seriously, I was looking to see the real America and experience some wonderful sights along the way. Below is the route shown day by day starting from Daytona Beach, FL. I would love to see you if we are passing close to you, so let me know.

Google software bug shared private online documents

breitbart.com - March 10, 2009 -- Google has confirmed that a software bug exposed documents thought to be privately stored in the Internet giant's online Docs application service.
The problem was fixed by the weekend and is believed to have affected only .05 percent of the digital documents at a Google Docs service that provides text-handling programs as services on the Internet.

SQL Server 2000 and RS-SQL

We are starting to add the SQL 2008 information to our manuals, as this is the latest release of SQL Server from Microsoft.  Currently we have information for SQL Server  2000 and 2005, such as the installation instructions, but with the next release we will only show information for SQL Server 2005 and 2008.

As we move to take advantage of new features and functionality in the newer versions of SQL Server, we want to discourage the continued use of SQL Server 2000 as a platform, even though we currently still support it.  New installations should be carried out on SQL Server 2005 or 2008

If you do need the SQL Server 2000 documentation, you can request a copy of our older documentation from your support representative.

SQL Server 2000 MSDE and the 2GB limit

If you are using the free version of SQL Server (known as MSDE) in SQL Server 2000, please be aware of the 2GB database limit.  This month we had a customer exceed that limit and cause himself several problems.  If you are using SQL Server 2000 MSDE, we strongly recommend upgrading to the full version of SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server 2008.

Please contact your technical support representative to learn about the benefits of running SQL Server 2005 over SQL Server 2000 MSDE.

RS-SQL Version 3.07.19

For our early adopters, who have received version 3.07, there will soon be a small patch to resolve some small issues identified by you.  As this will be released before the next newsletter, visit http://www.oneilsoft.com/forum/index.php?board=23.0 regularly to download the patch as soon as it is available.

Datamax/O'Neil Announces "End of Life" for the MF2t Printer

March 2, 2009 - Datamax-O’Neil announces the planned discontinuance of the microFlash 2t product line effective June 2, 2009. First introduced in 2004, the mF2t was widely deployed in a variety of mobile field applications. Sales of the mF2t have diminished in recent months, however, as more and more customers take advantage of the added features and lower price of the microflash 2te, which was successfully launched in July of 2008.

To learn more about the MF2te, please contact your Business Development Manager or Support Representative.

As always, if you are unsure or require further clarification on any of the technical topics discussed... simply ASK! Remember, we are only a telephone call or email away. For our contact details, click here.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Before loading any service packs, check with your O'Neil support representative first. News on the effects of loading a service pack is received all of the time and they will be able to advise you of any issues.

Quiz
Us
Here’s a question asked of our technical specialists by an O'Neil Strategic Partner during the last month. Why not test your knowledge by seeing if you know the answer?

Question:  How can you perform a query/report of all the files which are contained in the boxes that have been collected as Pickup items on a Workorder?  So, in other words.....100 boxes were collected - can we give a listing of the files in those boxes?
