It's taken me a little time to catch up following the
Strategic Partner Conference, but I think I am finally
there. You can get up-to-date on what happened in
the What's New section below. You will also
discover the updates to our website and a new method of
getting news to you sooner.
Also, in this edition, we have the first Quiz Us
where the question and answer are both supplied by the
customer. It is great to see how a RS-SQL feature
can be turned into a solution.
As always, I hope you enjoy this edition. Ian Thomas
Vice President - Business Development

What's New at O'Neil

Strategic Partner Conference Wrap
WOW!! What can I
say. You guys blew
me away. This is the
5th Strategic
Partner Conference
and your enthusiasm
made it the best.
Not only did I see
some of the funniest
antics in the Record
Center Challenge (I
need to record those
"cheers") but the
networking
interaction was
simply awesome.
The biggest news
relates to the final
tally on the
sponsorship and
silent auction for the
Share Our Strength
Charity. Thanks to
everyone involved, I
was able to mail out
a check for
$23,006.81.
This far exceeded
our initial goal of
raising $10,000 and
the charity has
asked me to thank
each and every one
of you. Just by participating in the Record Center
Challenge, you contributed to this worthy cause. Your
enthusiasm in the Cook-Off, the Tortilla Toss, the Relay
Race (have Leo and Ian found the shore yet?) and the
"Cheer" were
fabulous. I think the huge
round of applause
for Uncle Bill, when
he stepped up and
offered $4000 for
the golf trip to
Ireland, said it
all. Worth over
$8,000, and very
generously donated
by
CUSP Point Software,
he got a bargain but
also contributed to
a fabulous cause. I
would like to extend
a huge thanks to
each and every one
of our Silent
Auction winners and,
especially all our
other Sponsors for
their donations:
If you are not
familiar with the Record Center
Challenge, it's
where we have a little networking fun. This year
was particularly fun and I still haven't stopped
laughing from Jason's "wiggle-lo" dance. We all wished
we had video taped that one but we do have over 1,000
photos from the
conference and yes,
we have the
wiggle-lo in action.
A
Gallery of the best
500 Photos
is available on
our website and from
a forum link, where
you can post
comments, download
photos and even get
them printed to
easily share the
memories with
friends and
colleagues. If
you missed the
event, don't miss
the photos.
New User Forum Now On-Line
Talking of the
forum, if you
haven't yet noticed,
we introduced a new,
user forum
at the conference.
This replaces the Strategic Partner section of our
website and creates a more interactive method of
communication. This is where I have posted all our
downloadable
content and already
available are all
the
speakers sessions
and
support info-breaks
from the conference.
In the spirit of the
forum being designed
to share
information, this
year we are making
them available to
all O'Neil Users,
not just the
conference
attendees.
This new
forum will allow you to ask questions and discuss how
you use the software with other O'Neil Software users.
You can reply or comment on almost every topic you find,
and there are already nearly 100
topics, so if you
haven't taken a look
yet, I encourage you
to look around and
get involved.
If
every O'Neil User
posts just one
question and
participates in
answering one
question, that would
be a lot of useful
information
immediately
available to
everyone. So don't
delay. Get involved today.
Want your News
Sooner?
The eNewsletter has been around for
many years now, with this being my 92nd month of writing
it, but many of you crave for snippets of information
much faster. As a result, I have commenced my
first blog. For those who are not familiar, a blog
is a Web Log, or on-line journal, which I can update
quickly and easily. This means that as news,
ideas, issues or anything else pops into my mind, I can
share it with you straight away. The
advantage is the timeliness of the information.
If you want to receive regular updates or read about what I am thinking,
simply visit
http://oneilsoft.blogspot.com.
The newsletter,
overtime, will become a summary of Blog entries, so why
wait to get it monthly when you can be updated daily or weekly?
Don't forget, you can also subscribe to the blog to
get regular updates, right in your browser or email
(with Outlook 2007) using the RSS Feed capability.
You can read more about RSS feeds on our website at

Windows XP
gets (yet) another Reprieve
Microsoft wasn't quite ready to comment when rumors about yet another reprieve for Windows XP first starting circulating, but that now seems to have changed, with a spokesperson for the company reportedly confirming in an email to InformationWeek that it is indeed pushing the cut-off date back six months, all the way to July 31st, 2009.

Quiz
Us |
 |
Here’s a question asked
of our technical specialists by an O'Neil Strategic Partner during the last month. Why not test your knowledge by seeing if you
know the answer?
Question: We
have a situation where we store tens of thousands of
x-ray files for a hospital. Even though we have detailed
information on each jacket provided by the hospital, we
do not rely on this information to determine when
something can be destroyed. For example, we do not
destroy Mammography’s, we keep the minor records longer
and if a filefolder has more than one volume, we keep it
until the last volume can be destroyed. These are things
that can create human error, thus we manually evaluate
each filefolder prior to destroying them. In the
past, we have pulled all the filefolders off the shelf,
brought them to a computer where we scanned it directly
to a workorder, but it takes a very long time. Is there
a better way?
