What's New at O'Neil

Want your News Sooner?

The eNewsletter has been around for many years now, with this being my 91st month of writing it, but many of you crave for snippets of information much faster.  As a result, I have commenced my first blog.  For those who are not familiar, a blog is a Web Log, or on-line journal, which I can update quickly and easily.  This means that as news, ideas, issues or anything else pops into my mind, I can share it with you straight away.   The advantage is the timeliness of the information.

If you want to receive regular updates or read about what I am thinking, simply visit http://oneilsoft.blogspot.com.  The most recent post discusses why I think the blog offers advantages over the newsletter.

Don't forget, you can also subscribe to the blog to get regular updates, right in your browser or email (with Outlook 2007) using the RSS Feed available.  You can read more about RSS feeds on our website at http://www.oneilsoft.com/news/rss.shtml

Strategic Partner Conference Registration  - 85% Full

With one week to go, we have almost reached the available capacity for the conference so this is your final opportunity to join us in Newport Beach next week.

If you have not attended one of these conferences before, be sure not to miss this opportunity to network with other users, meet the support & development team and learn how to maximize your software investment. Registration is required for all customers who wish to attend and space is limited to the first 150 people. Past experience has shown that these do sell out... so don't delay.

If you are travelling from a country where a visa to enter the US is required, you can download a letter to support your application at:

http://www.oneilsoft.com/partner/pdf/ConferenceVisaApplicationLetter.pdf

Strategic Partner Brochure Available Online

Don't forget to view the Strategic Partner Conference Brochure.  This comprehensive overview of the conference is available online at http://www.oneilsoft.com/news/conference/brochure2008.pdf

Strategic Partner Award Nominations...

Award Winners: Decisions being made this Thursday!

For those of you who have registered, don't forget to nominate yourselves for a Strategic Partner Award. The awards ceremony is always one of my favorite events at the conference, and usually a lot of fun too, so make sure you have a chance to win an O'Neil Strategic Partner Award.  It is not too late to be in the running for an award and you can see who has been nominated by clicking the Who's Nominated link below.

NEW O'Neil On-Line Sessions Added

As we continue to look at new ways to get content to you, we have included on our website some internal PowerPoint documents, mostly used to train our staff on new features in RS-SQL Version 3.06. Our thought is that we should share as many of these presentations as possible, so you can undertake training internally or just brush-up on features you are already familiar with.

The presentations added this month cover the following topics:
  • Barcode Lengths
  • Model Users
  • The Prefix & Suffix Feature
  • Priority Services
  • Unit Volume Billing
  • Workorder Close Feature
You can download the presentations from the Education section of our website at: http://www.oneilsoft.com/express/internet.shtml Please note that these are not instructor-led courses, such as the O'Neil EXPRESS courses available from the same section of our website. These are documents for self-study.>

To view or download content from our website, you will need a Strategic Partner username and password. You can register at: http://www.oneilsoft.com/support/register.shtml

Still Using the Physical Dongle Key?  It's time to go Virtual !!

The red physical dongle key was our original method for controlling your RS-SQL licenses.  Suitable at the time, it has long been replaced by the ability to have a virtual software key.  This eliminates the need to logon to the master workstation every few days and gives much greater options for Disaster Recovery testing.

Also, with version 3.06, new features, such as the Image on Demand, are only supported in a virtual software key environment.  So don't wait.  Contact your support or business development representative to transfer to virtual licensing today.

RS-SQL Version 3.05+ & Windows 64-Bit Servers

The RS-SQL database can be installed on or restored to a 64-bit server running 64-bit Microsoft SQL Server. The RS-SQL Client, RSWeb.NET, and the RSMobile Communication server can be installed on and run on a 64-bit server that supports a 32-bit subsystem.

This is also a requirement if you chose to use a 32-bit version of SQL Server for your database installation. For example, the Itanium processor does not support a 32-bit subsystem. It can host an RS-SQL database but cannot run the application on the server. The Xeon processor supports both 64-bit and the 32-bit subsystem. Any of the RS-SQL, RSMobile or RSWeb.NET applications can be installed on a Xeon server. Once the RS-SQL Client and Database are installed, there are no special settings required to run the client from the server or to access the database from another workstation.   Read More...

You may experience difficulties with the AmyUni Driver for creating web reports.  Please contact your support representative for the latest information.

RS-SQL Version 3.06 Patches now available

If you are running RS-SQL version 3.06.19, there is now a fix for some minor issues.  Application of the patch will take you to version 3.06.20.  There are actually 2 files, one for your RS-SQL client and one for your RS-SQL database.

Click here to download the patches from our website.

Note, all systems and CD's shipped after August 26 should have shipped with RS-SQL 3.06.20, so there is no need to install these patches.  Check your HELP>ABOUT screen if in doubt or call your regional support representative.

As always, if you are unsure or require further clarification on any of the technical topics discussed... simply ASK! Remember, we are only a telephone call or email away. For our contact details, click here.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Before loading any service packs, check with your O'Neil support representative first. News on the effects of loading a service pack is received all of the time and they will be able to advise you of any issues.
