Information
Today, I am lucky enough to be sitting looking out of my hotel window at the spectacular Petronas Twin Towers in Malaysia.  I have been here attending the PRISM Asia Pacific Conference and what a wonderful time I have had.  I really enjoy these opportunities to meet with so many customers, to hear their success stories, and to gain suggestions for enhancements to the software.  As a result, however, I am a little late writing this newsletter but I hope you can forgive me.

This month, you can find out the latest news regarding our Strategic Partner Conference, get logo's on your workorders, check out the latest news, and listen to our new audio interview.

As always, I hope you enjoy this edition.

Strategic Partner Conference Information Updated

Our website now has updated information regarding this years' Strategic Partner Conference.  We are delighted that our keynote speaker will be Jim Booth, the Executive Director of PRISM International.  As the industry trade association, PRISM has a unique insight into the industry.  In the keynote, Jim will share some of that insight with us all.

The draft agenda is also in place.  The session timings have been decided and all speakers have now been selected.  Over the next few weeks we will allocate the speakers to the slots.  We have also created a link to nominate yourself, someone in your company, or your company for one of the Strategic Partner of the Year Awards.  You can also see who has been nominated.

Finally, the registration will be handled by an external company and I hope to have both the hotel and conference registration open, with a web form, by the end of the month.

Your Company Logo on Your Workorders?

When visiting customers over the last 2 weeks, I noticed that most of you know how to put a barcode onto your workorders but most didn't know that you can now add your company logo to the top of your workorders.

In the Workorder grid, from the Options menu, select Workorder Customization. the following dialog appears:

Bitmap File: Type the path and filename of the bitmap. Only the BMP file format is supported. At print time if the file is not found, the workorder is printed without the logo.
Width/Height Inches: Enter a width and height in inches if you want your image to be scaled. If no values are specified, no scaling is performed and the actual image size is honored.
Logo Alignment: Select where on the page you want the logo to appear.
When you have completed all fields, click OK to save.

Citrix Published Applications and RS-SQL Licensing

Our basic licensing model is based on a client/server relationship. Client basically equates to a workstation or “desktop”. You can invoke multiple RSSQL instances of Admin and/or Ops from a single workstation/client and use only one standard user license.

In the Citrix and Terminal Services environment the concept of a workstation/client/desktop exists not on a physical workstation but as an environment created on the Citrix/TS server. If a user has access to a Citrix/TS full desktop environment and executes multiple instances of Admin and/or Ops only one RSSQL license is used.

However, Citrix/TS treats the invocation of a Published Application as a limited, independent desktop environment. RSSQL has no way of detecting that two instances of Admin and/or Ops have been invoked from the same physical workstation when access is by way of a Published Application. Therefore, an RSSQL license is used for each instance.

Obviously, the appropriate strategy for users who need to invoke multiple RSSQL application instances at the same time in the Citrix/TS model is to give those users a full Citrix/TS desktop with access to Admin and Ops.

RS-SQL Version 3.05 Update Available

If you were mailed RS-SQL (version 3.05.14), there has been an update made to correct a small issue with workorders.  Known as Patch 3.05.15, this is a script to run against the database to fix this matter. If you have installed RS-SQL 3.05.14, you can download the necessary file at: http://www.oneilsoft.com/support/downloads.shtml

Check your Custom Style Sheets for RSWeb.NET

Starting with the latest release of RS-SQL (version 3.05), there has been a change to one of the controls we use for displaying the results grids.  This has caused some minor problems if you have used Custom Style Sheets to personalize your version of RSWeb.NET.  If you have done this, please contact your support representative before upgrading to version RS-SQL 3.05.  We will look at your CSS file and make appropriate changes to correct the problem.

Microsoft MSDE no longer included on your RS-SQL CD.

Starting with the latest release of RS-SQL (version 3.05), we are no longer supplying the MSDE installation files on our RSSQL installation CD. In today’s world, installing MSDE2000 is considered to be installing out of date software, according to Microsoft. Also, it is not supported in Windows Vista.

SQL Server 2005 Express Edition is the new version of MSDE and is a free, easy-to-use, lightweight, and embeddable version of SQL Server 2005.

If you currently use MSDE, please contact your support representative who will be able to assist you obtain it or explain the appropriate upgrade path to SQL Server 2005 Express Edition or a full release of SQL Server.

Quiz
Us
Here’s a question asked of our technical specialists by an O'Neil Strategic Partner during the last month. Why not test your knowledge by seeing if you know the answer?

Question:  I want to change the background image on the startup screen in RS-SQL.  Ideally I would like different images for the operations program and the administration program.  Can this be done?

Answer:  It is fairly straight forward for you to do this.  All you need to do is get the images you want as the backdrop and save them as a bitmap (.bmp) file.  Then, rename the file either RSAdmin.lgo (to make it the admin background) or RSOps.lgo (to make it the operations background). Once this is done, copy the file(s) into your C:\Program Files\RSSQL folder. The backgrounds should now be changed to reflect your corporate image.
