In this edition there is a lot of links to new content on our website, available from our Technical Support Section.  With new demos, education sessions and datasheet, there is something for everyone, from operations to sales.

With a quiet time on the commercial record center news front, we focused on some government news issues to give a different perspective.

Also, the provisional date is set for the Strategic Partner Conference 2008.  Many you have already been contacting us about this so I am delighted that you are as excited as we are about next years event.

As always, I hope you enjoy this edition.

Strategic Partner Conference 2008 - Provisional Date Set

Did you miss the fourth Strategic Partner Conference at the Hyatt Regency in Huntington Beach, California during March 2007?

This years Conference was undoubtedly the best yet (click here to read all about it)  and so we are already planning the next conference with high hopes of, once again, creating the best networking event of the year, and you can help.

To be held at the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach from September 24-26, 2008.  As always, the call goes out for you to speak at this event.  This is your opportunity to stand up and tell others how you use your software to win deals, cut costs or just do something completely unique.  All speakers attend at no charge, so what are you waiting for?  Email me at ian.thomas@oneilsoft.com to volunteer.

Destruction Authorization Report

It's funny how sometimes you get asked the same question more than once in a week.  Well last week was no exception as I was asked three times about Destruction Authorization Reports in RS-SQL.

Added as one of the new Reporting Services Management Reports, to support the Retention Scheduling feature, this report is formatted complete with "sign-off" sections for your customers to approve the destruction of records

To access the Destruction Authorization Report you go to:

Administration >> Records Retention >> Reporting >> Destruction Authorization.

You will need Microsoft Reporting Services running in order to utilize this report.  Contact your local technical support representative if you require assistance.

Changes to Daylight Savings Time in the US

The rules for DST changed this year. DST was extended by 3 weeks in the spring and is being extended by 1 week in the fall.   If you did not address this issue in the spring it is essential to address it now.

In general, if you’re operating system is currently supported by Microsoft, appropriate updates will be made available by Microsoft. If you have Microsoft’s Automatic Update feature enabled, you will get the updates automatically. If you do not have Automatic Updates turned on and choose not to turn the feature on, you will have to manually download and apply the updates.

Finally, you can do the time adjustment directly by changing the time when the DST transition occurs; however, as an example, for Pacific time, time zone will remain “Pacific Standard Time (PST)” instead of “Pacific Daylight Time (PDT)” until the old rule for DST transition is applied three weeks later.

Quiz
Us
Here’s a question asked of our technical specialists by an O'Neil Strategic Partner during the last month. Why not test your knowledge by seeing if you know the answer?

Question: When using the PDT3100 I would get a notification  when I scanned a pick up item that is not itemized on the workorder and it would ask me if I wanted to add it.  In my new RSMobile device I don't get the same notification. Am I missing something?

Answer:  What you are noticing is simply a design difference as we took a new approach with the RSMobile devices.  As items are scanned, the Scan Date and Time is automatically added. As with the PDT3100, you can also scan unitemized items but with RSMobile the item code is added and the Scan Date/Time appears with an asterisk next to it.

If a driver does NOT intend to pickup things that are not itemized on a workorder, then they simply have to glance at the screen and look for asterisks, or look at the workorder details (from the Main Menu for that workorder) and choose the "pickups" tab. Here, all counts are displayed; Container/Filefolder/Tape are distinguished, and among those, itemized/unitemized. So, if you want zero unitemized pickups, just check before you leave.
