I'm
a little late getting around to writing the newsletter
this month. This was largely due to the completion
of our transition to a new accounting system.
Additionally
I was waiting for some news that I wanted to share.
On Friday, that news finally came through and I am delighted to
tell you all about it in the "What's New" section
below.
Also in this newsletter, you can learn about how our help
desk is performing and a great tip on RSMobile
licensing.
And don't forget to enroll in our September training
classes in Chicago. We are booking now and space is limited.
for more information.
As always, I hope you enjoy this edition. Ian Thomas
Vice President - Business Development

RS-SQL
Tip |
 |
Locate a Record Quickly Using the
Active Column
This is an old
tip, but one worth mentioning again.
In RS-SQL the
first column on a grid is known as the "active column".
This can be helpful if you have a large results set on
the grid and need to jump down to a group of records. With
this trick, you can quickly jump to the start of the
group simply by
hitting the appropriate key.
So how does
it work? Format the grid to have barcode numbers in the first
column and then sort the grid. You can then quickly jump to,
for example, a barcode starting with the number 5 simply by hitting
that number on the keyboard.

Changes to Daylight Savings Time
in the US
The rules for
DST changed this year. DST was extended by 3
weeks in the spring and is being extended by 1 week in the fall.
If you did not address this issue in the spring, it is
essential to address it now.
In general, if your operating system is currently
supported by Microsoft, appropriate updates will be made
available by Microsoft. If you have Microsoft’s
Automatic Update feature enabled, you will get the
updates automatically. If you do not have Automatic
Updates turned on and choose not to turn the feature on,
you will have to manually download and apply the
updates.
Finally, you can do the time adjustment directly by
changing the time when the DST transition occurs;
however, as an example, for Pacific time, time zone will
remain “Pacific Standard Time (PST)” instead of “Pacific
Daylight Time (PDT)” until the old rule for DST
transition is applied three weeks later.

Quiz
Us |
 |
Here’s a question asked
of our technical specialists by an O'Neil Strategic Partner during the last month. Why not test your knowledge by seeing if you
know the answer?
Question: Can you help me understand RSMobile
licensing? I want to have some spare handheld
units, but don't want to purchase unnecessary licenses.
Can you help?
Answer:
Any customer using RSMobile devices may have more
registered RSMobile devices than he has actual licenses.
You cannot, however, have more ACTIVE RSMobile devices
registered in his RSSQL database than you have licenses.
For example, he may have 5 licenses and have 6 RSMobile
devices listed in the device table, but only 5 of them
can be ACTIVE at the same time. This is useful if you
want to have ready, backup devices for the occasion when
a device is not working and has been sent in for repair.
And did you know, if you purchase a Device Only from
O'Neil Software, we will beat any price from an
authorized Symbol/Motorola dealer - GUARANTEED.
