What an interesting month this has been! Just
recently, it
was us who were on the receiving end of a data
conversion, as we moved over to a new accounting system
to better serve our customers.
Also we received the results from our regular six month survey and are delighted that we gained
four
points in the NSAT (customer satisfaction) score.
Your comments are always valuable, topical and relevant
and we we will be reviewing each one to ensure
our service continues at the levels you expect.
Thank you to everyone who took part and especially to
James Cashman of Ireland who was the winner of our draw
for a $100 American Express Gift Card.
This edition of the newsletter contains a large technical
support update, a Q&A relating to mobile scanner repairs
and all the usual news and tips.
As always, I hope you enjoy this edition. Ian Thomas
Vice President - Business Development

O'Neil Switches to Microsoft
Dynamics GP
On July 1, 2007 all three of the O'Neil Software companies
switched over to
Microsoft Dynamics GP for our accounting needs.
Previously our accounting system was a resource planning
accounting suite suitable more for our old sister
company O'Neil Product
Development, rather than the service oriented O'Neil
Software companies. Our desire is to provide our
customers with greater access to information relating to
their orders and accounts and so a new platform was
required.
Initially you should notice very few changes: new
invoice layouts and statements, but everything should be
business as usual. Over time we will be
introducing a series of tools to speed up the flow of
information between you and us. The first goal is
that we wish to have automated emailing of receipt of
your orders and statements. I shall, of course, keep
you updated on progress.
Important Note for O'Neil AustralAsia PTY Ltd
customers: Please be aware that from
July 1, 2007 all sales invoices will be sent from O'Neil
Software Inc. Please update our account details in
your accounting systems with the correct company name.
Full details will appear at the bottom of your next
invoice.

RS-SQL
Tip |
 |
Lose the Buttons
I have to
confess that it has always been a pet niggle of mine
that RS-SQL had the buttons at the bottom of a grid.
I have got used to using the right-mouse click available
in Outlook and liked that approach. I also think
it makes the screen cleaner and provides more room for
query results. Well, since RS-SQL version 3.02 you
have had the choice to show the buttons or remove them.
From any grid,
select the View menu and decide if you
want to see toolbars or buttons. The Options
choice allows you to make default choices for all grids.
With the
buttons gone, right click on the grid (if it is empty) or
a row (if it is populated) and see all the same choices
without having to move the mouse to the bottom of the
screen.

Version 3.04.15 is an Official Release
With Beta testing finally complete, RS-SQL 3.04 is now ready and is
available on request from your support or business development
representative. If you haven't read about this release, you can
view the release highlights in our
Resource Center or get all the
details from our
Support Downloads section. Contact your local support desk
when you are ready to upgrade, as this is a major release involving
changes to the underlying MS-SQL database structure.
RSWeb.NET Startup Kits Update
Different versions of RS-SQL may require different versions of the RSWeb.NET Start
Up Kit. Check our web site
Resource Center, to download the kit compatible with the
version of RSWeb.NET you are running. If you don’t know about the Start
Up Kit, it has
sample forms, model users, quick queries and query groups…everything you need
to get started fast with RSWeb.NET.
RSMobile Device Information
Motorola (formerly
Symbol) and Microsoft are continually releasing patches and upgrades to
the RSMobile scanner platforms and operating systems. If you experience
any problems with your scanners be sure to call your local O’Neil support desk.
Applying the latest platform has fixed issues for several customers. And
this week we’ve received another platform for the MC909X Windows Mobile 5
devices.
Got a mixture of RSMobile scanners? There are important differences
between the hardware and operating systems on the different RSMobile
scanners. Once you understand them, using the devices is easy. But
without this knowledge, end users may feel frustrated or confused about
why a device works a certain way, or seems not to be working for them.
O’Neil University offers the RSMobile From Setup to Service course in
Irvine in August and November this year. This course is a must for anyone
who has not had RSMobile training. For specific questions, contact the
O’Neil support desk who can inform you about the expected behavior of
any device.
Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework (KB928365)
Microsoft downloaded a security update for .NET Framework this month
that created problems for many applications, and unfortunately that
included RSWeb.NET.
Do not download the security updates numbered as follows:
for Windows XP/2000 it is update KB928365.
For Windows Vista it is update KBKB929916.
If you are using RSWeb.NET and want to be on our
list of people to receive early alerts about technical topics that may
affect your RSWeb.NET installation, send an e-mail to
Support@oneilsoft.com
with a subject line of RSWEB.NET USER.
O'Neil EXPRESS Updates Coming Soon
O'Neil EXPRESS will shortly be updated with new, five minute sessions introducing
the new features in RS-SQL Version 3.04. Watching these sessions will give you
enough information to get started and from there, go through the New Features document to learn how to use
and/or configure the feature.
As always, if you are unsure or require further clarification on any
of the technical topics discussed... simply ASK!
Remember, we are only a telephone call or email away. For our
contact details, click here.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Before loading any service packs,
check with your O'Neil support representative first. News on
the effects of loading a service pack is received all of the time
and they will be able to advise you of any issues.

Quiz
Us |

Here’s a question asked
of our technical specialists by an O'Neil Strategic Partner during the last month. Why not test your knowledge by seeing if you
know the answer?
Question: I received the Symbol Service Level
Agreement the other week from your office for the new
MC9090 Scanners. There are no instructions as to
where we ship if the systems require repair etc. I spoke
with the support team who told me that we have to
ship to Texas and then supply O’Neil as the return
address so you will reinstall the software etc. This
sounds very complicated and time consuming?
Answer:
On the repair side, the procedure for mobile devices can be a little
complicated depending on the nature of the repair.
For example, if a keyboard stops functioning or a
screen is damaged, it is unlikely that the unit
would need to be returned via O'Neil. In that
instance, you should be able to contact the Symbol
Repair facility directly. However, an example of a unit
that could need to come via O'Neil is an older unit that
initially shipped with Pocket PC 2003 software and was
upgraded to Windows Mobile. Symbol's database of
serial numbers will show that this was a Pocket PC2003
device and, therefore, it is possible (if not probable)
that they will re-install this operating system.
We would then need to upgrade it to Windows Mobile for
you. Ideally, work with our support desk and
they will let you know if they think we need to view the
unit so you can ask Symbol to ship it back to us. To
request a repair, Symbol now allows you to create an
online Returns Material Advice (RMA) from their
website. In order to do this, you must register
first at
http://www.symbol.com/services/registration/registration.html.
Please be prepared to provide your Service Contract
# or your Site ID in order to complete the form.
Once you
have a registration, you will be able to request and
track RMAs, as well as check on contracts, at:

You can
get these links, download a PDF explanation and
watch a movie explaining the process all from the

If you have a database of names in an Excel spreadsheet

such as
first names
and last
