Information

This month's newsletter comes from the beautiful Holiday Inn, Brisbane as I continue a short visit to the Australasia region.

It has been a pleasure to catch up with so many of you and share ideas for the future of records management.  It seems that you all have great ideas and they are all focused in the same direction, which certainly makes my job easier.  As we introduce many of your new ideas, I will keep you all posted via the newsletter and our web site.

In this edition, I share an update on a question many of you asked (see the What's New section) and continue with last months's RS-SQL Tip, which focused on the RSMobile communications grid.  We also have all the latest news and a technical support update on Windows Vista.

As always, I hope you enjoy this edition.

What's New

RSMobile Getting Cingular/AT&T Certification

At our recent Strategic Partner Conference many of you expressed the desire for RSMobile to communicate from anywhere, not just via a Wi-Fi "hotspot".  The benefits of this meant you could have instant communication with your driver or staff working in a remote facility.  Imagine sending a pick list or workorder to a facility with no network communications!

The great news is that we are now well underway to making this available to you.  Over the next month, RSMobile will complete its AT&T certification so that it can communicate over GPRS.  GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) is the world's most ubiquitous wireless data service, available now with almost every GSM network. GPRS is a connectivity solution based on Internet Protocols that supports a wide range of enterprise and consumer applications. With throughput rates of up to 40 kbit/s, users have a similar access speed to a dial-up modem, but with the convenience of being able to connect from anywhere.

You can talk to your Business Development Representative for more details about this new capability coming soon.

RS-SQL
Tip
RSMobile Communications Queries.

Following on from last months tip on unified communications sessions, there is a great script available that creates some useful quick queries in the RSMobile Communication Sessions grid.

You have to execute the script in SQL Query Analyzer to add these quick queries to the RSMobile Communication Session grid.  To do this, you need to carry out the following steps

1. Open SQL Query Analyzer and login as SA.

2. Click on File \ Open and browse for the file:

 \misc\RSMobileCommSessionQueries.sql on the CD.

3. Make sure the database selection in Query Analyzer is set to your RS-SQL database (this is usually “RSSQLDB”).

4. Execute the script. You can press the F5 key or click the green arrow on the toolbar.

The following quick queries will be added to your grid and will be immediately available to use:

~All RS-Mobile Comm Sessions
~Route Ops Sessions Not Downloaded
~Picklist Sessions Not Downloaded
~Scheduled Date
~Downloaded By User and Download Date
~Uploaded By User And Upload Date
~Contains Workorder Number
~Assigned to User And Scheduled Date
~Upload Date
~Downloaded But Not Uploaded
~Unreconciled
~Uploaded But Not Processed
~Totally Done Sessions
~Refile Lists to be Downloaded

Meeting Center & O'Neil EXPRESS Update

It was brought to our attention that our O'Neil EXPRESS sessions were failing to run in Firefox. Our Meeting Center and O'Neil EXPRESS sessions utilize the Webex Meeting Manager services. After checking with their support, Webex has identified several browser issues with Firefox and so O'Neil Software recommends the use of Internet Explorer 6 or above when using our meeting services.

Windows Vista Update

We’ve received lots of questions from you all regarding our testing of Vista.  Version 3.05 is planned as our first “Vista ready” release. You should be able to install and run version 3.04 on Vista with a few small issues and we’ve taken care of those issues in the upcoming version 3.05.

One important point if you are looking at Vista is that any Vista edition that has the word “Home” in wil not be supported. That leaves Ultimate, Business and Enterprise as our recommended Vista versions. There are lots of reasons for this. For example, Microsoft says that SQL Server 2005 Workgroup, Standard and Enterprise will not work on any of the Vista Home editions.

Also note that SQL Server 2000, including MSDE, will not run locally on Vista. That means that you will not be able to relocateyour SQL2000 database onto a Vista machine. You will either have to upgrade to SQL 2005 or keep the database server on another Windows platform.

Please know that we are in the early days of our experience with Vista and everything is subject to change.  Talk to your support representative for the latest information.

As always, if you are unsure or require further clarification on any of the technical topics discussed... simply ASK! Remember, we are only a telephone call or email away. For our contact details, click here.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Before loading any service packs, check with your O'Neil support representative first. News on the effects of loading a service pack is received all of the time and they will be able to advise you of any issues.

Quiz
Us
Here’s a question asked of our technical specialists by an O'Neil Strategic Partner during the last month. Why not test your knowledge by seeing if you know the answer?

Question: Our sales team are introducing RSWeb.NET and want a simple way of documenting how the web screens should be customized.  Do you have any tools to help?

Answer:  We certainly do.  In the RSWeb.NET startup kit is a form that you can give to your sales team.  This helps them to 'interview' their customer and record their requirements, helping to make the introduction smooth and professional.  You can download the complete Startup kit at:

Windows Tip

Lost Your Desktop Icon?

If you mistakenly deleted the icon for the Desktop on the Quicklaunch toolbar, like I just did, you can get it back fairly easily.

Go to C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch   (where user_name is replaced by your login name)

Create a Text file called ShowDesktop.SCF with the following contents:

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

That should do it.
