What's New at O'Neil Software
|

A NEW STRATEGIC PARTNER MAGAZINE IS
INTRODUCED
As you
know, we always like to start off the year with something new and exciting
and we intend 2003 to be no exception.
For
many years, O'Neil Software has provided a Quarterly Bulletin. We
started in the 80's with "What's In Store" and this was
re-introduced as "The Record" in 1994. In 1996 this was
renamed to the now familiar "Strategic Partner" and re-launched as
a large, map-style fold-out document. The layout was re-vamped in 1999, into
the format that is familiar to you today. Once again we felt that now was the
time to present this publication in a new format. We expanded the
content, adopted a more easy to read, magazine style
and so the Strategic Partner Magazine was born. This new format is
designed to provide you with a consistent layout, so you will always know
where to go to read the articles that interest you. Do you want to see a
Case Study, read about what's new in the software, or catch up on brief
news from O'Neil's customers - our Strategic Partners? The Strategic
Partner Magazine will have it all...and more...it might even make you
smile.
And
now you can help make this Your Magazine: Something you can
show to your customers and staff. Simply send us your news. Have
you moved, won a new contract, gained an award, opened a new building, got
a request, or anything that you would like to share with over 4000 readers
of the Strategic Partner Bulletin.
To
ensure you are subscribed to receive the FREE Strategic Partner Magazine,

O'NEIL ANNOUNCES DATE FOR NEXT STRATEGIC PARTNER CONFERENCE
After
carefully reviewing the overwhelming feedback we received from the
Strategic Partner Conference 2002, we have selected a date for the next
conference. You told us summer had too many vacations, autumn was too busy
and spring was ideal. With spring 2003 rapidly approaching, coupled with
our desire to create a conference filled with new and innovative ideas, we
have decided… drum roll please… to hold the next conference in February
2004. This provides enough time for both you, the user, to organize
your budget and schedule, and for us to create another great event. We
have many surprises in store so remember to check our web site for all the
details:

UPDATED
CLASSROOM TRAINING FOR 2003
We are
excited to let you know that we are busy revamping the layout of the
classroom training courses and associated books. We are integrating
the ideas heard
from those of you who have attended courses over the years. Just in time
for the January courses, we will have new Administration-Critical Set-up
and Standard Operations courses completed. We are confident that the
layout will be more straightforward and we have also added exercises
(called Labs) to the back of each course book. The new course structure
will see attendees devoting more time at the end of each class to
practice. Of course, time to cover everything is always a challenge, so we
designed the Labs so that they can be used as a practice exercise once the
student returns to the record center. We'll be anxious to see what you
think.
Don't
forget to check out the course schedule below or
on our web site at
http://www.oneilsoft.com

RS-SQL™
Tip of the
Month
|
DO
YOU HAVE MINIMUM INVOICE CHARGES? ARE THEY CALCULATED BEFORE TAX,
AFTER TAX OR DO YOU WANT TO DO BOTH?
Many
companies want to charge a minimum invoice amount but there is a
difference of opinion as to whether this minimum amount should be
including tax or before tax. Not to Worry, in RS-SQL you can chose
per customer how you want to handle this.
Let’s say
you have an invoice that totals $4,750.00, Tax is at 8% and your Minimum
Invoice Charge is $5,000. The examples below show what your end result
would be using each of the different methods.
Example 1
In this
first example, you would set up an Invoice Minimum Charge by creating a
Transaction. You do this in Administration, under the
Options menu, Transaction submenu, select Account
Transactions (works the same for Base Transactions). The Account
Transactions grid appears. Click Add to access the Account
Transactions Add dialog.

Select
Minimum Charge in the Base Action box. Select an Account and
using the drop down arrow next to the Action Code field, select
MININVOICE. In the Rate field type your minimum charge and click OK
to add the transaction.
|
Invoice
subtotal
Tax is 8%
---------------------
Invoice
total |
$4,750.00
380.00
--------------
$5,130.00 |
When you
print the invoice, your minimum charge is $5,000, so the invoice total
exceeds the minimum. However, once you pay out the $380 in taxes, your
take from the customer is $4,750.
Many people
feel that you haven’t really collected your minimum of $5,000.
Example 2
In this
example, you would set up an Invoice Minimum Charge by creating a
Transaction as above but this time select MININVBT. In the Rate
field type your minimum charge and click OK to add the transaction.
|
Invoice
subtotal |
$4,750.00 |
|
Minimum
Invoice Charge is $5,000 so $250 is added to bring it up to the
minimum |
250.00
$5,000.00 |
|
Tax is 8%
--------------------- |
400.00
-------------- |
|
Invoice
total |
$5,400.00 |
When you print the invoice, your minimum
charge is $5,000, so the invoice total is increased to meet the minimum
and the Tax is applied. In this case, you pay out your $400 in taxes and
you still have $5,000 from the customer.
Just
another
example of the unique flexibility of pricing within RS-SQL and as always,
if you are unsure of how any part of this feature will work for you... simply ASK! Remember, we are only a telephone call or email away.

Quiz Us!
|
|
Here’s
a question asked by an O'Neil Strategic Partner during the last month of
our technical specialists. Why not test your knowledge by seeing if you
know the answer?
Question: We are growing and operating from more than one
warehouse. We also have different download points in the warehouse and I
want to know how I can easily identify a PDT download that was made at a
certain site or workstation?
Answer: Within
RS-SQL, there is a site number column in the Communication Sessions grid
for the purpose of a site-specific query of PDT Downloads. By assigning a
site number to each workstation (whether they are remote sites or not),
you can identify all communication sessions by workstation, building,
workgroup, etc. The site number is saved in RSWIN.INI (workstation file)
and can be entered or edited in several different ways depending on the
type of method you are using to upload the scanned data to the database.
