A NEW YEAR, A NEW LOOK AND A NEW VERSION OF THE SOFTWARE!

With the new year ahead of us it is great to be starting it with a new look newsletter and a new release of RS-SQL™.  During 2001 we released five new versions of our software, as we moved from version 1.17 to version 1.21.  That's more than all our competitors put together!  This year promises to be equally exciting with some great new features on the horizon and we've started off the year as we mean to go on...with the release of RS-SQL™ Version 1.22

You can get the latest scoop on version 1.22 below in the What's New Section and also don't forget to look at the Tips section to see how you can use one of the new features immediately.  For the first time this release contains some pre-release (often named beta) versions of new features heading your way, so you can get an early look and feel of them.

Finally, we hope you enjoy the new look eNewsletter.  Not only has the layout changed but we have changed some of the topics... but don't worry!  The Hints, Tips & Great Links that we have been providing you with throughout 2001 are still here.

We hope you have a very successful 2002.

What's NEW

RS-SQL™ VERSION 1.22 - IT JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER!
The latest version of RS-SQL™ comes with a host of new features to help you keep ahead of the competition. So what can you find in this great new release?

The Operations Program is boosted with the Item Process Control Table now giving the ability to query by workorder priority and a great new feature, named Alternate Sort Order (ASO) appears in beta format for the first time.  ASO will allow record centers to manage files with sort sequences, such as Terminal Digit Medical Files, much more simply. That means that RS-SQL™ can now automatically handle any sort sequence for an account's records: Barcode, Alternate Code or Sequence Range can all use this feature.

The Administration Program benefits from some enhancements to the language module, new query fields in the re-print invoice option and most importantly a price adjustment module.  For more details on the price adjustment module, see the RS-SQL™ Tip below.

The RSWeb/Web Order screens have the added benefit of an email being generated and sent to the customer when a request for a report is fulfilled by the record center.  This alerts the customer that they can now 'pick up' the completed report through the RSWeb screens and, best of all... its all automatic.

Also, on the CD you will also find a folder named RSSQL32.  In this folder is an installation program named SETUP.EXE.  This program will install the new 32-bit version of RS-SQL. The 32-bit version front-end is fully compatible with the RS-SQL 1.22 Database so why not install alongside the current version. You can find a complete list of the difference between the versions also on the CD in the folder manuals/RSSQL32Changes.  We think you'll like the new look.

LATEST STRATEGIC PARTNER COMING YOUR WAY...
The January Edition of our Strategic Partner Magazine should be on its way to you very soon.  This edition deals with that question: "What is a Strategic Partner?" and looks to recognize some of our partners from 2001. As always, there is also a great article from one of our customers.  Can you afford to miss it?

If you or your company does not receive a copy of Strategic Partner Magazine then contact us immediately and we will add you to our mailing list.  Simply email us at Newsletter@oneiluk.com with your contact details and we will be glad to send you a copy of this quarterly magazine.  If electronic documentation suits you better, you can always download the latest version and previous versions from our web site at www.oneilsoft.com.  Simply visit the Latest News/Strategic Partner section.  You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to read these copies.

WHAT'S NEW ON THE WEB...
A few years ago we offered a book free to Records managers through ARMA's publication the Records Manager Quarterly to help a prospect select an off-site vendor.  Known as the Industry Update, this has proven to be such a popular book that we've put it onto our web site for you to download.  Why not put your company logo onto it and give it to your prospects?  You can find the book by following the link below:

RS-SQL™ Tip of the Month

PERCENTAGE PRICE INCREASES MADE EASY!
Every year, there is a need to look at your contracts and implement a small price increase, usually based on the Cost of Living Index of your country.  To date, this has often been a task that is considered to be so time-consuming that many companies have not bothered to implement them but those days are over with the release of RS-SQL™ Version 1.22.  So how can you do this?

In the Administration Program, simply query the Transactions that you wish to apply the price adjustment too, from the Base or Account Transaction tables. Once you have the the query results on the table, you can select from the Options Menu a new selection named Adjust Pricing.  From this new option, you can apply a fixed or percentage price increase to all of the transactions on the table.  This is an option that will globally edit the marked records on the table so remember to unmark any that you do not wish the price adjustment to affect.  A good tip is to always select the option to backup to a file, as the 'old' prices can be re-imported if you are unhappy with the changes you have made.

As always, this is a powerful new feature, so practice on a demonstration account first and if you are unsure of how any part of this feature works...ASK!  Remember, we are only a telephone call or email away.  For our contact details, click here

Technical Support -  News & Views

STILL NEED RSWin SUPPORT?

This is a point from a previous eNewsletter that we felt was important to re-state:

Lately, there's a lot of talk within the industry of software companies withdrawing support from software packages. Recently two companies issued notices to their customers that they no longer intend to support older versions of their software, and there has been much speculation relating to the support of Record Storage for Windows (RSWin).  We believe that it is important that we support our customers and assist them with a transition to RS-SQL™ when they are ready to do so.  Technology is constantly changing and much of the older infrastructures are becoming un-supported and so there will come a natural time when RSWin will no longer function.  Then and only then would we withdraw support for this product.

In the meantime, you can work with your Business Development or Technical Support Representative to plan your transition to RS-SQL.  Our web site has conversion documentation and checklists available so you can be prepared.  With less than one-third of O'Neil's Worldwide customers now using RSWin, shouldn't you be planning to take advantage of the newer technology and functionality of RS-SQL?

Quiz Us!

Here’s a question asked by an O'Neil Strategic Partner during the last month of our technical specialists. Why not test your knowledge by seeing if you know the answer?

Question: How do I create a refile list so that I can put items back into the container or location they came from?

Answer:
To generate a refile list you first need to get all the items requiring refiling into a table on screen.  You can do this by choosing Scan Refile from the PDT3100's Main menu and scanning each item or, if they have already been scanned into a holding area, querying the contents of that location.  Once the items to be refiled have been loaded into the appropriate table, under the Options menu, select Refile List to PDT3100. The PDT3100 Communicate Only dialog appears. Put your PDT 3100 into the Communications mode and place it in the cradle. Press the Enter key on the PDT3100 to download the Refile List to the PDT3100. When communications are complete, you may begin refiling by selecting Refile List from the PDT3100 Main menu.
