It's the beginning of a New Year and I am excited to be
able to share the long awaited release of RS-SQL Version
4.0 with you.
Version 4.0 is probably the biggest release after the
initial introduction of RS-SQL in 1999. Coming 10-years
after the launch of RS-SQL, which changed the course of
commercial records management software forever, it had
to be a version that was looking towards the future, as well
as building on the past. I am delighted to say that
RS-SQL v4.0 achieves both of those things.
May I take this opportunity to wish you a Happy New Year
on behalf of the whole O'Neil team and, as always, I
hope you enjoy this edition of the newsletter.

Vice President - Business Development

What's New at O'Neil |
 |
RS-SQL Version 4.0 - Now
Released

RS-SQL 4.0 is the latest release from O'Neil Software and
represents a major step forward in capabilities and
foundations for the future.
Major changes have been made
"under the hood" to ensure that RS-SQL meets the
challenges of our customers globally. These changes will
allow us to handle more character sets, such as Chinese,
Thai and Japanese, and supports our continued commitment
to our international customers.
As we build on our past success, RS-SQL v4.0 includes
more than 30 of your most popular enhancement
requests. From the Short Description field on containers
to the emailing of delivery/pickup receipts, we have
worked hard to include as many as possible.
Version 4.0 brings together many enhancement requests that
we have received, and gives them to you in one upgrade.
Don't take my word for it. This is what Martin
Duty of Underground Vaults & Storage said on our
User Forum:
"Just read the New Features document and the release
notes. And the first thought is WTG [Way to go] O'Neil!!
Lots of work done on the whole shebang."
So how can you get your hands on this latest copy of
RS-SQL? It's easy. Visit the
RS-SQL Version 4.0 web page and Click on the
Upgrade button or the Order Now tab.

RS-SQL Version 4.0 -
Compatibility Questions
RS-SQL version
4.0 is designed to operate on the newest operating
systems from Microsoft, including Windows 7, Windows
Server 2003 R2 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008. It
also takes advantage of some of the other
technology advances, such as .NET Framework 3.5.
As such,
there are some things you need to be aware of prior to
your upgrade. You can read all about them on our
User Forum at:
http://www.oneilsoft.com/forum/index.php?topic=544.0
RS-SQL Version 4.0 -
Readiness Check - Now Available for Download
RS-SQL version
4.0 will come with a new program designed to ensure you
are ready to upgrade. Known as the Readiness
Check program, it will be available on the RS-SQL
installation CD in the folder with the same name.
You should run this program prior to upgrading your
database to RS-SQL version 4.0.
So what will it do for you?
The program examines your RS-SQL
database, looking for unexpected objects that might interfere with the
RS-SQL 4.0 database upgrade. The Readiness Check program will
also check for and report on SQL Server 2000 presence, and inform you of the
RS-SQL 4.0 requirement for SQL Server 2005 or later.
Click on this link to go to the user forum, where you can download the
Readiness Check Program and associated files. Unzip all the contents before
executing the ReadinessCheck.exe program.

Documents on the Web - On-Line Poll - Closes January 31
As we
continue our RSWeb.NET development, an interesting
question has arisen and we would like your opinion.
Currently we do offer Document access via RSWeb.NET but
most customers only use this for access to images.
We plan to
create a more direct link between parent objects
(Containers, Filefolders & Tapes) and their respective
images in a future release of RS-SQL, so the questions
is:
Is access
to individual documents (usually paper within a
filefolder) via RSWeb.NET important to you?

Should you be Certified?
As we talked internally about completing the 2010
Classroom training schedule, it raises a question in my mind:
What should we do different to make training better, easier,
cheaper and more effective? Over the years we have tried
different formats, many of which have endured right up to
today, but is is time for something new?
