It's the end of another year and it has been a pleasure
for me to be able to bring you our news throughout 2009.
We have also been able to gain some great feedback from
you throughout the year and we are
continuing to use it as a key component of
our development efforts, in our methods of
communication, on the user forum, and
throughout our website. Please keep your comments
coming and you know you can reach me by e-mail at
newsletter@oneilsoft.com, or on Twitter
@IanJThomas
or on
Facebook.
I am also very excited about the year ahead, especially as
we prepare for the
upcoming product launch of RS-SQL 4.0 and the next Strategic Partner
Conference 2010 in Huntington Beach, California. I
will, of course, bring you news about all of those things…and
much more throughout 2010!
Happy holidays to you all and, as always, I hope you
enjoy this final newsletter of 2009.

With
the testing phase of RS-SQL 4.0 now complete, you
can be sure I am going to have a big announcement in the
January newsletter.
RS-SQL 4.0 is a major release and, as such, requires some
preparations, if you are upgrading from a current
version of RS-SQL. You can read all about the
preparations in my blog at:
http://www.oneilsoft.com/news-portal/ians-blog
If, however, you are like me and can't wait for more
details, there is some early information available on
our User Forum at:
http://www.oneilsoft.com/user-forum/ Simply
Scroll down to the RS-SQL 4.0 section, where you can
download the release notes and New Features
documentation.
2010 Strategic Partner Conference -
Registration underway: 15% Sold
We can't believe how many of you have pushed us to open
the registration early for the 2010 Strategic Partner
Conference and, as soon as we did, you jumped right in
and got us started. We want to thank you because early
registration really helps us with
the planning stages. We will keep the early registration prices to the same as 2008,
with a small increase for late registrants starting in
mid-February 2010. So
don't delay. Write the date in your calendar and book
early for the not-to-be missed event of 2010.

RS-SQL Version 4.0 -
Readiness Check - Now Available for Download.
RS-SQL version
4.0 will come with a new program designed to ensure you
are ready to upgrade. Known as the Readiness
Check program, it will be available on the RS-SQL
installation CD in the folder with the same name.
You should run this program prior to upgrading your
database to RS-SQL version 4.0.
So what will it do for you?
The program examines your RS-SQL
database, looking for unexpected objects that might interfere with the
RS-SQL 4.0 database upgrade. The Readiness Check program will
also check for and report on SQL Server 2000 presence, and inform you of the
RS-SQL 4.0 requirement for SQL Server 2005 or later.
Click on this link to go to the user forum, where you can download the
Readiness Check Program and associated files. Unzip all the contents before
executing the ReadinessCheck.exe program.
Documents on the Web - On-Line Poll
As we
continue our RSWeb.NET development an interesting
question has arisen and we would like your opinion.
Currently we do offer Document access via RSWeb.NET but
most customers only use this for access to images.
We plan to
create a more direct link between parent objects
(Containers, Filefolders & Tapes) and their respective
images in a future release of RS-SQL, so the questions
is:
Is access
to individual documents (usually paper within a
filefolder) via RSWeb.NET important to you?
Cast your
vote at:

As always, if you are unsure or require further clarification on any
of the technical topics discussed... simply ASK!

IMPORTANT NOTE: Before loading any service packs,
check with your O'Neil support representative first. News on
the effects of loading a service pack is received all of the time
and they will be able to advise you of any issues.

2010 Classroom Training Dates Now
Available
The next training courses scheduled for the classroom are
in 2010:
January 11, 2010 RS-SQL Administration - Critical Setup
January 12-13, 2010 RS-SQL Standard Operations
January 14-15, 2010
RSWeb.NET
These courses are available in all the O’Neil Software Offices worldwide.
The complete 2010 Calendar is now
available on our website and user forum.
Also, do
remember that specific training classes not scheduled may
be requested and will be offered on demand, based on an
adequate number of attendees. This means if you
don't see what you want on our
schedule, request something else.
Should you be Certified?
As we talked internally about completing the 2010
Classroom training schedule it raises a question in my mind:
What should we do different to make training better, easier,
cheaper and more effective? Over the years we have tried
different formats, many of which have endured right up to
today, but is is time for something new?

Quiz
Us |
 |
This
month we look at another question that our support team
was asked. Why not test your knowledge by seeing if you know the answer?
Question: Is it
possible to add different items to a workorder from one
place? I am finding it tedious to have to go to
each of the separate grids to complete a workorder.
