THE O'NEIL NEWSLETTER - ISSUE
1 December 2000
=======================================================================
Welcome to the first
O'Neil Software monthly
newsletter. After
several months talking
with customers it has
become apparent that in
today's fast paced
world, we need to get
information to you more
quickly. The
newsletter is aimed at
getting O'Neil related
news and other relevant
information right to
your desktop.
We planned to send the
first edition in January
2001 but couldn't resist
the opportunity to share
some of our latest news
and to wish you all a
very enjoyable holiday
season from all at
O'Neil Software.
We'd also like to thank
the customers who
evaluated this first
issue in advance and we
hope you enjoy it as
much as they did. We
would, of course,
welcome your suggestions
for future issues by
email to:

WHAT'S NEW...
Version 1.16 of RS-SQL
was launched on December
1st with some great new
features.
Amongst them is a great
new activity set to
record an INVENTORY.
This will allow you to
charge for customer
audits much more
efficiently
than ever before. It
also includes some great
enhancements to RSWeb.
For more information, go
to
http://www.oneilsoft.com/PressReleases/Version1-16.htm
Also, to ensure we keep
pace with the latest
industry standards,
version 1.16 is fully
SQL 2000 and Windows
2000 Compliant. Of
course, we will continue
to support Windows NT
4.0 and SQL Server 7.0
for some time.
We are not planning to
send this out
automatically as Version
1.17 will be released
very soon...with more
NEW features. We are
conscious of the time it
can take to install
these releases and did
not want to impose any
additional
administration burden
onto you. If you do,
however, want to receive
this release, simply
contact your Business
Development or Support
Representative, who will
be glad to arrange to
send it to you.
Last month Kathleen Tran
from our accounting
department left us to
commence a Masters
Degree in Accounting. I
am sure that, if you
have spoken to Kathleen,
you will know that she
will be sorely missed.
However, Dan Reisman and
Mark Tipton have joined
us on the US based
Support Team boosting
the permanent team
numbers to 9 staff. Dan
holds the MCSE
qualification and Mark
brings 10 years of IT
experience with him.

O'NEIL SOFTWARE HINTS
AND TIPS - RSWIN USERS
Finding A Barcode That
Falls Within A Range of
Assigned Barcodes:
Many people have asked
how to tell if a barcode
number that has been
issued is within an
account range but have
found the query a little
tricky.
This is because the
'trick' is to include
the number you are
looking for twice in the
query along with the AND
statement.
In the Administration
program choose Account
range. In the Account
Range table, choose
Search and Load to run
the following query. (I
have used barcode number
598768 as an example)
AccountRange^BeginCode
less than or equal <=
"598768" AND
AccountRange^EndCode
greater than or equal >=
"598768"
Of course, you can use
this idea to also search
for an item in a
container sequence
range. For Example, if
you wanted to find all
containers where '150'
was within the sequence
range, you run the
following query:
Container^SequenceBegin
<= "150" AND Container^SequenceEnd
>= "150"

O'NEIL SOFTWARE HINTS
AND TIPS - RS-SQL USERS
Many people have asked
for an example of using
the new features in
Version 1.15 to handle
Filefolders in
Containers that are
requested but not
indexed on the system.
In RSWin and previous
versions of RS-SQL, this
was quite a time
consuming task but not
anymore
Here's an example of
how it's done... (We
have identified the NEW
features for you).
1. Your customer
requests two filefolders
by description:
"Welch, Lauren" and
"Erica"
You do not know, at the
time of the request,
whether the filefolders
have been indexed in
RS-SQL. Within the
workorder, you go to the
NEW menu choice to Query
& Post Items. From this
NEW item table, you can
query for the
filefolders according to
your operational
procedures. For example,
you could query by
Filefolder Short
Description, Filefolder
Alt ID, or you could
query by Container
Contents or Container ID
to locate the
container(s) holding the
filefolders.
Assume neither folder
currently exists in the
system. They must be
created (added). They
are created with the NEW
Add Feature in the Query
& Post Items table,
utilizing the NEW
Auto-Incrementing
Barcodes feature for
assigning a barcode.
2. Folders are instantly
posted to the workorder.
3. Workorder is
downloaded to a Picklist
on the PDT3100
4. The PDT3100 is used
to pick folders.
5. The first folder
(Welch, Lauren) is found
and reassigned a new
barcode using the NEW
Reassign Barcode feature
through the PDT3100. The
barcode is attached to
the filefolder.
6. The second folder
(Carter, Erica) is not
found and is scanned as
Not Found with the NEW
Not Found Barcode
7. PDT3100 is processed
back to the system. NEW
Features: Tallies for
Reassignments and
Not-Founds.
8. You charge the
customer for searching
for the Not-Found item.
This step is
semi-automated. You can
choose to have it fully
automated (NEW Feature:
Automated PDT Processing
Setup). You select the
Not-Found items on the
workorder and charge for
them using Other
Services (NEW Feature:
Unmark Vals/Process
Non-Validations menu
items and dialog).
9. You can choose to
automatically delete the
not-found filefolder and
its activity from the
workorder and from the
database.
If you wish to discuss
this more, please
contact your Business
Development
Representative or your
Support Representative.

explaining the features
in more detail from our
web site by clicking:
