Every month we challenge you with a questioned that was asked to our support team.  Can you answer the question?

Based on popular demand, we are now adding these to this FAQ list for easy lookup.

April 2008 - Question:  I want to add a lot of new locations.  I have already added all my odd numbers (on one side of the racks) and now want to add my even numbers.  I don't want to overwrite the locations that already exist so how do I exclude them?

Answer:   You probably know this part, but to add a range of locations, from the Location grid, under the Options menu, select Add Range. The Location Add Range dialog box appears.

The answer to your question is the small check box titled "Ignore Existing Locations".  This is a verification option that makes sure you are aware of any existing Locations within the range of Locations you are adding. Available only on the Location Add Range dialog, this check box allows you to tell the system to ignore any Locations that already exist within the range you are adding.

If you choose not to ignore them, the system prompts you at each one, asking you if you are aware of its existence. Regardless of your choice, the system will not change the information associated with an existing Location, but adds your Location range around it.

March 2008 - Question: I want to use monitors and send electronic invoices but my I.T. guy told me I need a MAPI compatible email server.  This sounds complicated. Can you tell me what I need?

Answer:  The good news is that your I.T. person was correct but things got a whole lot easier with SQL Server 2005.  Database Mail, has been a new addition to the SQL Server 2005 database engine since early 2007 but most people haven't taken advantage of it yet.  Destined to be the replacement for SQL Mail, Database Mail uses a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server to send e-mails rather than using the MAPI accounts that SQL Mail required.  This allows your organization to send e-mails with attachments. It also gives you the ability to set many other configuration settings without requiring you to have an Exchange Server or configuring any type of MAPI workaround.

February 2008 - Question:  I want to change the background image on the startup screen in RS-SQL.  Ideally I would like different images for the operations program and the administration program.  Can this be done?

Answer:  It is fairly straight forward for you to do this.  All you need to do is get the images you want as the backdrop and save them as a bitmap (.bmp) file.  Then, rename the file either RSAdmin.lgo (to make it the admin background) or RSOps.lgo (to make it the operations background). Once this is done, copy the file(s) into your C:\Program Files\RSSQL folder. The backgrounds should now be changed to reflect your corporate image.

January 2008 - Question:  A few months ago another O'Neil user was visiting us and we were discussing "file tracking" charges. They were surprised that we  were able to charge per file and get it. I guess I didn't think it was out of line because no one ever complained. I think a lot these days about how to catch or apply incremental cents on the dollar.  I got to thinking why not charge a "container tracking" fee. This could be applied if a container is OUT or has ever been checked out.  If this is already possible can you let me know?

Answer:  I am glad you have discovered the financial benefits of the "tracking" feature.  To explain, tracking only applies to items where you are not charging for storage. Therefore, in today's software, you cannot charge tracking on containers unless you turn off the charge for storage. This would probably not be good for boxes with a status of IN or OUT.

Therefore, I tested with DESTROYED and PERMOUT containers, by turning off the charge for storage flag for some items, and that worked.

So, to answer your question, you can charge a tracking fee on perm-out or destroyed boxes, but you must first edit their "Charge for Storage" flag to NO. I used the following Query to find them:

Container^ItemStatus = "DESTROYED" OR Container^ItemStatus = "PERMOUT"  AND Container^ChargeForStorage = "YES"

Now set up a container tracking transaction and these will appear on the next invoice.
