The Forum 500 Print E-mail

For all you NASCAR racing fans, this was the month of the Daytona 500 but for me it was the month where we saw the User Forum break past 500 posts. This may not seem too earth-shattering, but the forum is still a fairly new method of opening up communications with all our customers.

The forum has quickly become a knowledge base of articles from O'Neil but the most important aspect is the ability to read about or get involved in discussing particular topics. When we see that a topic is very popular, it allows us to take notice. For example, there is one topic that created a lot of interest, and that related to the short description field on containers, or lack thereof. The question simply asked: "As a small backwater operator in Newcastle Australia I have wondered why the Description field available on file and tape records is not available on container records..." After some internal discussions, we have decided to see if we can get this added or fixed, depending on your point of view, in the next release of RS-SQL.

Now it doesn't mean that every enhancement request is going to immediately get added to the next release, that wouldn't be practical, but it does show that the forum is a great place for us to learn about what we need to do to keep improving our product lines.

A big thanks must go out to the moderators, who are not O'Neil Software employees, but interested parties. Their support has been essential to the forums' initial success but you can make it better...

If you regularly visit the forum, don't be afraid to post a message, a reply or just provide moral support to someone who asked a question you always wondered about.
