At the recent PRISM International Conference, I was fortunate to be a part of an industry panel, where we got to answer questions that were relevant to the industry. One question, which was referred to me, was where did I see the industry headed in the next 5-10 years? I took the opportunity to answer this from a technology standpoint, by referring to some technology enhancements, which could be commonplace by then, and applying them to standard records storage and management industry workflows. To preface my response, I had to explain that I believe cloud computing was essential to the success of these technology enhancements and it should not be confused with hosting. I think the audience enjoyed my look into the crystal ball but once the panel was finished, the most questions posed to me related to the difference between hosting and the cloud. There still appears to be a lot of confusion on that particular topic and clearing it up is very important, so I thought I should address it in this month’s blog.
